■ j A SUBSTANTIAL MAJORITY. TWO THOUSAND VOTES CAST. The poll on the City Council's proposal to raise £60,000 to extend the electrical installation resulted in the proposal being carried, 1371 voting for it, and Gfi7 against it. Hol- ; land) said that he regretted that so ! few citizens had shown interest in j their_own concern, but one explanation probably was that a largenumber of people had -electricity installed and therefore had no perj sonal interest in the poll. That only 12038 out of about 11,000 ratepayers ; had properly recorded their votes did not redound to the credit of the citizens, nor was it calculated to \ encourage the council to launch out j into muncipal trading.
