Mr C. Light (Melbourne) is among the guests at Warner's Hotel. Mr J. W. Brngh (Dunedin) is staying at the United Service Hotel. Mr C. Wilson, the Parliamentary Librarian, has gone to Eotorua on a health trip. Mr J. Pavitt, stationmaster at Kaiapoi, has been advised of his promotion to a similar position at Lyttelton. Mr Leo de Chateau, well known in theatrical circles, is now on the managerial staff of B. J. Carroll, in Sydney. Capt. Rider, N.Z.M.C., medical officer in charge of Tauhereuikau Camp, is leaving'for the front with the 20th Reinforcement. Bishop Sadlior, of Nelson, is slowly recovering after a severe illness, but it will be some time yet before he is able to resume his duties. Detective-Sergt. Mcllveney has been transferred from Wellington to Christchurch. He has been connected with <-he detective force in Auckland for 14 years. Gunner Len Bassett, leaving with the 20th Reinforcement, was presented with a handsome wristlet watch by the employees of the International Harvester Co.' of New Zealand, Ltd., at the office on Saturday. Major W. M. Turnbull, who has come recently to the Dominion from England and France, left Dunedin on Saturday for Trent-ham, where he is to be assistant instructor in military duties under Colonel McDonald-. Inspector Norwood, of Inyercargi]]. has been promoted to Wellington as Superintendent, in succession to Commissioner O'Donovan. Other changes among the senior police officers are pending, but are held over for the present. The Invcrcargill station would be administered in the meantime from Dunedin. Mr P. J. Earle, a well-known member of the literary staff of the Wellington "Evening Post," was presented, on Friday afternoon, by past and present members of the Institute of Journalists with a gold badge inscribed with a record of six years' service as chairman of the Wellington branch of the Institute and four years as clrairmau of the Council of the Institute. Mr A. F. Meldrum, who has been selected as a Rhodes Scholar, is the son of Lieut.-Colonel Meldrum, who is in charge of the New Zealand Mounted Troops stationed in Egypt. The new Rhodes scholar, who has had a distinguished scholastic,career, went to Samoa with the Advance Force, ami on returning to New Zealand he again took up .his studies. He enlisted again with the loth Reinforcement as a noncommissioned officer, leaving New Zealand as a sergeant. He is at present in Fngland, suffering from wounds in the hands.

Visitors to the Clarendon Hotel include Messrs E. G. Lohr (Wellington), R. M. Watson (Wellington), R. Morrison (Eltham), and J. B. Richard (Stratford). Mr Howard James was on Saturday made the recipient of a handsome cheque from Messrs Sargood, Son, and Ewen, Ltd., and a nreson+ntin-, -"„,.-■, the staff on his severing his connection with the company to start business on his own account. Stout; Sergeants J. M. Donn (since killed in action) and N. L. Forsythc and LanceSergeant R. H. Kember.
