I'rom Our Own Correspondent During the week the following games have been played on the Sumner bowling green:— Championship Singles.—.J. Booth defeated T. Chambers and lost to T. B. Boulton and R. Gibbs; T. F. Chambers lost, to W. F. Raphael, J. A. Booth, F, Maddison, and lleves; Ur. Gosset defeated W. S. Ileyes; t. B. Boulton defeated J. A. Booth; W. S. Heyes defeated T. W. Johnson and T. Chambers, and lost to Dr. Gosset and F. Maddison; W. Hampton defeated J. S. Neville and B. Gibbs; J. S. Neville lost to W. Hampton; R. Gibbs lost to W. Hampton and W. S. Mitchell, and defeated J. A. Booth: T. W. Johnson defeated W. F. Raphael, and lost to W. S. Heyes; J. Illingworth defeated W. F. Raphael; W. Raphael defeated T. Chambers, and lost to .1. Illingworth and T. W. John-, son; F. Maddison defeated W. S. Heves and T. F. Chambers; \V. S. Mitchell defeated R. Gibbs. Championship Doubles.—E. A. Johnson and F. Maddison defeated T. Chambers and Dr. Gosset: Mitchell and Part* ridge defeated E. A. Johnson and Maddison; E. A. Johnson and F. Maddi* son defeated H. Buttle and R. Gibbs, A start was made this afternoon with the Championship Rinks, when Johnson played Smithson, and Raphael played Partridge. On Wednesday next the monthly meeting of the Sumner Branch of the Mothers' Union will be held in the Parish room. Selections will be given by members of a Glee Club, and j afternoon tea will be provided. The I annual meeting of the Union takes place at the Y.M.C.A. rooms, Christchurch, on Tuesday. The ladies of Sumner and Redcliffa are quite busy preparing for the sweets stall which they are providing on the occasion of the Domain Fete. A general meeting of all helpers has been called for Tuesday next in the supper room when final arrangements will be made. At Monday's meeting of the Sumner Guild of the Seamen's Institute, members are to hand in the "ditty bags" which they make every year for Christ* mas presentation to the seamen in port. These bags are filled from headquarters with a variety of articles useful for a sailor away from home, and are much appreciated by the men.
