SOUTH CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB. SPRUNG MEETING. Despite the rather threatening weather there was a fair attenance at the Washdyke course yesterday when a start was made with the spring meeting of the South Canterbury Jockey Club. The rain was not sufficient to interfere with the racing which was or an interesting nature all through. Speculation was fairly brisk, the sum of £IO,OOO being invested, as against £11,134 on the corresponding day last year.
