MOTIVES FOR CENTRAL POWERS' ATTEMPT. ALLIES URGED TO DO THEIR UTMOST. (Received October 13, 9.50 a.m.) •■ Tin Tunes" Srrvire, LONDON, October 12. In the Rumanian Parliament M. Basilesco said lie believed the following were tin: motives for the Central Powers' attempt to crush Rumania : Victory would mean a consolidation of the German mastery from the North Sea to the Persian Gulf. An invasion of Russia from the south via Bessarabia. Control of the Black Sea, and perhaps a decisive victory in the East. The securing of the vast Rumanian stores of corn, petroleum, benzine, mineral oils, salt, timber goods, the railway system of the Danube, and the transport, besides the crops. lie exhorts the Allies to do their utmost to protect Rumania, thereby shortening the war and saving millions of lives and hundreds of millions of money.
