SOUTH WAIMAKARIRI RIVER BOARD.

The South Waimakariri River Board met to-day, when there were present: Messrs W. P. Spencer (chairman), F. E. Jones, H. E. Perryman, J. Leslie, C. Burgess, N. K. Bowden, and J. B. Laurenson. OVERSEER'S REPORT.

The report of the overseer slated that there had been two Hoods in the river since the last meeting, on September 8 and 14 respectively. While the first did no damage, tlie second washed away a portion of No. 2 wing on No. 9 embankment at Halketl, and also sank a number of large cement blocks. Work had been commenced in the direction of repairing this damage, and would be completed on October (i, at the cost of £IOO. The river was running strongly behind the seven-mile peg and the Empire Bridge, and was washing away a portion of lot 25. Kxpendilure on work during the month had been as follows:—Planting marram grass £lO 9/-, grubbing gm'se and cleaning out water races £l4 0/3, and repairing No. 9 embankment £34 19/-. The report was adopted. It was decided to construct a bridge across the stream and place a gateway on (lie road leading to reserve No. 3132, leased to Mr I). Cameron, subject to the approval of the chairman and engineer, after an inspection. MISCELLANEOUS.

Accounts amounting to £233 19/were passed lor payment. Mr Conway wailed on the board to ask that permission be given to place a gateway across a road leading to No. 13 block, West Melton. It was decided that the board had no jurisdiction in the matter.
