EDUCATION BOARD.
TO-DAY'S MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Canterbury Education Board commenced to-day, there being present:— Messrs C. H. Opie (chairman), T. W. Adams, C. W. Armitage, W. A. Banks, H. J. Bignell, J. Grimmond, W. M. Hamilton, 0. S. Howard, J. Jamieson, J. Mave, E. H. Andrews, and A, Peverill. The chairman referred to the long casualty lists that were coming to hand, and expressed the hope that peace and victory would soon come. Air Opie also referred to the loss sustained by the board's architect, Mr Penlington, whose son had been killed in action. He moved: —"That the board should express its deep sympathy with Mr Penlington and family in their loss." The resolution was carried, members standing. The chairman then suggested that the meeting of the board, preliminary to the meeting of committees, might be dispensed with as unnecessary, and henceforward members should meet at once in committee. The board then dissolved into the various committees, which will report to-morrow morning, at 10.30.
