AN EFFECTIVE STROKE.
GERMAN PLANS AFFECTED. VON MACKENSEN'S REAR THREATENED "Ihr Tiih.ru" Strriee. LONDON, October 3. The Rumanians, by crossing the Danube, have made an effective and dramatic stroke, affecting the German plans, and threatening General von Mackenseirs rear. The German silence regarding Hermannstadt is considered most significant in view of Saturday's arrogant claims. Colonel Rcpington declares that Marshal von Hindenburg's Rumanian offensives are almost the last possible German stroke, but they cannot alter results, although they may prolong the war unless they are adequately met.
