At a meeting of the General Committee of the Canterbury Shoepowners' Union, held yesterday, the question of' the retention of the Addington JS:i !o yards, which occupies tlie position of the chief metropolitan live stock market in the Dominion, was discussed, and the following resolution was passed unaniinoiwly:— "That the Canterbury Sheepowncrs' Union protests against any local body having the power to make by-laws which interfere with the continuance of Addington as the pre inier metropolitan stock market for New Zealand, and urges the taking of immediate steps to contest the legality of the bylaw recently passed by the Riecartou Borough Council prohibiting the travelling of stork upon any road of the borough within reasonable irrying of all Mi Heywood a
