SENIOR CADET N.C.O.'S.

ANNUAL SMOKE CONCERT The non-commissioned officers of the Christchurch Senior Cadets held their annual smoke concert last evening, when there was a large attendance, presided over by Lieut. R. Hawkins. There were also present: Colonel Chaffey (Officer Commanding the District), Captain Northcote (Commanding Christchurch Group Area), and a number of Cadet and Territorial officers. The growth of the Cadet movement was briefly sketched by the chairman, who paid a tribute to the result of the efforts of the non-commissioned officers. At one parade of a total number of 56 on the roll 53 attended, while at. last Saturday's parade there, had been a muster of close on 900, as against 400 on a similar parade last year. The Territorial Force was bound to increase in efficiency, as it was stiffened each year by the influx of the Senior Cadets. Colonel Chaffey also, made eulogistic reference to the work of the Cadets, which had been the subject of complimentary remarks by General Robin at the inspection last Saturday. An excellent reform had been grouping of companies according to age, and other districts were now beginning to adopt this system.

During the evening musical and vocal items were contributed by the Cadet Orchestra, Lieut. Meredith Kaye, Sergt. Koss, Sergt.Major Glanville, and by a number of Cadets.
