In consequence of comphiinls from men at the front thai any chance of promotion is swamped by sending the full complement of oflicers with ■very draft, more opportunity is l«i be given to obtain commissions to men on active service. At present five New Zealandehs per month take commissions in the Imperial Army, six non-coms, come buck for commissions here, and six obtain them at the front. General Godley will now send back 12 oflicers per month lor training with the reinforcements. Previously they have returned as non-coins., but they will now return as officers. This, says the Minister of Defence, is to satisfy a continuous demand from the front for more commissions.
