TURF TOPICS.

Acceptances close to-night for the Geraldine Racing Club's meeting. In a fast "work out" at Randwick last week, Kilboy acquitted himself with credit. Accompanied by Reval for the first six furlongs, Kilboy ran a mile in lmin loscc, having covered the first five furlongs in lmin 4i sec. He appeared prepared to go on. Kennymore, winner of the Two Thousand Guineas in 1914, died in England a few weeks ago. Owing to the slackness of racing affairs in England, and the prospect of a further curtailment, Mr S. B. Joel has intimated his intention to race a number of horses in South Africa. Mr Joel and the South African turf are not strangers.

On the day that Sasanof beat the good ones in the Chelmsford Stakes, Sweet Corn, Shrill, Silent Way, and Gold Painting were unplaced in their particular race. Briseis, by Achilles—Calacno, continues to carry big weights among the "little horsesy around Sydney. On September 6 Briseis, loaded with 10.8, won the first division of the Flying Handicap, running the six furlongs in lmin 16sec. King Star, who ran second in the Hack Welter on the first day of the Ashburton meeting, has been transferred to R. Derrett's stable.' Ukraine, the dam of Sasanof, will be mated this season with Hallowmas, who, like Sasanof's sire, Martian, is a son of Martagon. W. Bell has been engaged to ride John Barleycorn in the New Zealand Cup.

The champion pacing mare, Country Befle, has been mated again with Logan Pointer. It is probable that a special horse train will be arranged in connection with the Oamaru Trotting Club's meeting on Labour Day, October 23. Representations to that end are now being made to the Railway Department by the local Owners' ♦ and Breeders' Association. Chortle, who was left at the barrier at Avondale on Saturday, claims no engagements at Napier or Hastings, and his next appearance will probably be in the Champion Plate at Trentham. Cherry Blossom, who was an absentee from the acceptances for the Flying Handicap at Wanganui, was taken to the meeting, but, it is understood, had been giving her trainer trouble since arriving there.
