A heavy sea lias been running along the coast during the past lew days. The Kittawa passed the Japanese steamer Yechigo Maru, en route from Lyttelton to Port Pirie, in Cook Strait on Thursday, the latter vessel, in consequence of her light trim, being given a good tossing about. The New Zealand Shipping Company's Orari was also delayed. Leaving Lyttelton on Thursday at 0.5 p.m. she did not reach Wellington until 2 p.m. yesterday, the run between the two ports occupying practically 20 hours. Several other vessels were also delayed. The Japanese steamer Koan Maru is expected at Auckland to-morrow with 1000 tons of phosphates from Ocean Island. The Huddarl Parker steamer Heverina ■■i < —made a very smart run of 15 hours last week from Sydney t<i liobart. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line's stoartvl'ort Elliot leaves Sydney to-day for New Srahmd. Alter discharging in the North Island, she will commence homeward loading at Lyttelton and oilier southern ports. The Federal and Shire Line's Durham is expected to reach Auckland bv Mondav. She is due at Lyttelton about August 2 and then proceeds to Dimedin to complete her discharge after which homeward loading will be commenced. The Wellington office of the A. and A. Line announces that the steamer IJoonah left New York on .lime 27 for Wellington, via Panama, and is due there about Ith of next month. She will subsequently go on to Auckland and Australian ports. The IJoonah was formerly a German steamer, but now belongs to the Australian Transport service. Cabled advice from Sydney states that the Riverina left Sydney shortly after noon yesterday for Wellington. The vessel, which is bringing 87 passengers and 081 tons of .. cargo, is due to arrive on Monday morning. and is timed to sail for Lyttclton at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The Riverina will return to Wellington on Thursday, and will sail at noon (instead of at flic usual hour—--5 p.m.) lor Sydney and Hobart.

Tlic Corinna is due from Dunedin on Wednesday, and alter discharging sails lor I Wellington. Mr M. Davidson, wireless operator of the | Patecua, has been transferred to the Maitai. i Captain Page, late of the Kittawa, prole led lo Wellington last night for instrucI tions. Direct from Singapore, via Sydney, and i | laden with case oil for the British Imperial ■ Oil Company, the steamer Cyrena arrived in J Wellington yesterday moring, and berthed i later at the King's wharf to put out the ■ Wellington portion of her oil cargo. The I Cyrena left Singapore on June 22, and made j ia call at Italik Papan (Borneo) for bunkers. Fine weather was met with, on the run down to Sydney. A quantity of liquid ; fuel was discharged there, and the Cyrena I then left for Wellington. Fairly good weaI ther conditions were encountered on the i run across the Tasman Sea, the worst wcai ther during the whole passage being that i met with in the Strait, when a high wind I was blowing, accompanied by heavy seas. During the passage from Singapore to Sydi ney, the Cyrena burnt liquid fuel in her | furnaces, but on the final stage of the j journey coal was reverted to, the vessel's I furnaces being adaptable to both fuels. j The Cyrena is one of the neatest and most ; business-like cargo steamers that has ever i visited Wellington. There are eight large ; cargo winches serving the two holds, one I fore and the other aft. of the bridge. The I peculiarity about the Cyrena is the fact I that her engines and funnel are situated I right in the after part of the vessel, thus 1 insulating the machinery and furnaces from j the inflammable cargo. The Cyrena has on board r>fl,ooo cases or benzine, 10,000 tons 'of oil engine kerosene, 1000 cases of brnzo- "■ line and autoline, and (iOO cases of drialine, i which are to be-discharged at various New Zealand ports. She carries a crew of 37 I Chinese. She is due here, to-morrow. I THK RANGATIRA'S SALVED CARGO. j The local ollice of the Shaw-Savill Line | announced this morning fiat the liner I Waiwera is due at Hobart at any time 1 now from Cape Town with the salved portion of the Hangalira's cargo. increase: in London dock dies.
