The employees of Messrs Turnbull and Jones, Ltd., met last night to say good-bye to Mr S. Toomey, who is going to the front with the 19th Reinforcement. been appointed to the position of ele< - i trical and mechanical engineer io the Westport-Stockton Coal Company. Mr ; Mitchell has had considerable enjrine.er- • ing experience, having been electrical engineer to the Union Steam Ship Company for many years, lie will leave for Westport early next month to commence his new duties.

Mr Henry Foster Fell was the recipient of a wristlet watch and pocketknife, on his leaving for the front, from his fellow-employees in the cutting-

room of the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company's Clothing Factory. lUr Bissett made the presentation in appreciative terms. This makes a total of 13 employees from the clothing factory with the Expeditionary Forces. On Friday evening Mr R. Cuming, who has resigned his position in the furniture department of W. Strange and C, Ltd., in order to join the Expeditionary Force, was presented by his fellow-employees with a wristlet watch, sleeping bag, writing wallet, and holdall. Mr H. V. Free, who made the presentation, said that Mr Cuming had been in the company's employ for-viiine years, and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him.
