N.Z. BOWLING ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association was held last evening, the president (Mr J. Brown) being in the chair. There was a good attendance of delegates. The annual report showed that 22 clubs were now affiliated to the centre, with a total membership of 1029. No tournaments were held during the 3'ear, and the Pennant competitions had been dropped in favour of friendly interclub games. Owing to the unsettled conditions, due to the war, many clubs had found less enthusiasm on their greens. As the South Island tournament will be held at Dunediu next year, only the usual Easter tournament will be held at Christchureh. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £126 4/2, of which £B4 16/11 remained in the Post Office Savings Bank and £4l 7/-T on current account at the National Bank.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted.

The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr A. Dickson; vice-president, Mr A. TT. Bourn; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr D. E. "Wood;

Hon. auditor, Mr 11. Killner; executivecommittee, Messrs C. Taylor and J.j Brown. The following were nominated; as delegates to the New Zealand Coun-: oil:—Messrs M. N. Barnett (Christchurch) and D. A. Morgan (Timaru). The subject of Pennant competitions was discussed, and Mr A. H. Bourn moved that a Pennant competition should be held. Friendly matches were good in their way and necessary to bowling, | but he thought there should be some j j form of competition. Mr C. Taylor seconded the motion. Mr T. W. Ambrose (Rangiora) snp- | ported the motion, as the eountry clubs I I were somewhat out of reach, and they ] j would welcome a system that would] (compel the other clubs to play them. ] Mr E. E. Daniels (Christehureh) said j that he had been instructed to vote (against any form «f Pennant competiItion being held. He pointed out that jthe members came along on Saturday j afternoons to meet each other in friend- . ly games, and if there was a competijtiou there would be many who would be left out in the cold because they were not iirst-elass players. Messrs M. N. Barnett (Canterbury) aud J. Clark (Opawa) also spoke against ] the motion. In reply. Mr Bourn said that by ex- j perience he had found that there was

• more excitement nnder a system of Peenaut matches. He did not hesitate to ;>ay that the friendly matches held last : season were failures. (Hear, hear.) The motion was lost by nine votes to six. Mr E. C. Chegwin (Akaroa) said thai if they were not going to play a Pennant competition they should not have any friendly interelub games at all, and the bowlers should all stay at their jhome club on a Saturday. He moved:— "That no friendly games should be arranged bv the centre." Mr D. E. Wood (St. Albans) «reei ied the motion, aud said that tho era be ] should arrange their own mat' ! r« wfcea jthey wanted an interi-lub game. Tke j system of centre control, as in fore* i last year, was a farce. Mr J. W. Bean land (E'lgeware) Raid that if the centre took up the attitude conveyed in Jhe motion, the sooner tee affiliated clubs withdrew from the e*»» tre the better. The centre s-huuld do its best for all parties. Mr Bourn moved, as an amen Imtert:— "That the executive be appointed a committee to go into the matt, r of the centre arranging games."
