LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

ELECTRICAL WORKERS. | To (he EdJUr of THE SUN. Sir.—May I be permitted as a practical electrician to refer to the | views expressed by Mr Stark, City | Electrical Engineer. I am not aware j of that gentleman's qualifications, as an engineer, but understand that he is an "Amurrican" which probably explains his unmannerly and untrue references to the electrical workers of Christchurch. One might not have resented his reference to our appalling lack of technical knowledge, had he confined himself to !hat aspect of our mental ineptitude; but, his ignorant and brutal reference to our laziness cannot be ignored. 1 have worked in Britain, in Mr Stark's country "Amurrica," and in New Zealand, and I declare most emphatically that man for man, the colonial workman is the superior, both mentally and physically, that he turns out more work per hour, and better work than does the American workman. It may appear to Mr Stark's giant intellect, and being a citizen from the greatest country on earth, "renowned as they are for their mod-

c j esty," that for him to gratuitously e j insult a body of workmen, could i. '■ not possibly be resented; but let me e j assure that gentleman, that, as a o | worker in the trade for many years, e: I do most emphatically resent his d j uncalled for and untruthful referI ences to our capacity and honesty, e j I sincerely hope thai those who •- ! are connected with our Technical a | College, also the Canterbury Cole i lege Engineering Staff, may think i-! it necessary to give our "cousin" y j from the U.S.A. some pertinent inJ! formation with respect to the work y j they have done in the past, and are - J continuing to do.—l am, etc.. i, EX-IH'NFJMN. b = =
