THE RECRUITING OFFICE.
I - PROPOSAL TO SHIFT PREMISES. STILL IN THE RUMOUR STAGE. It is intended that the old wooden building now occupied by the Par- ; eels Post Department in Hereford i Street is to be demolished and tho j department will then have to seek | fresh offices. Seen this morning, Captain North- ■ cote, the city recruiting officer, said that he had received no otlicial intimation that the Parcels Post Depart- [ ment was to occupy the premises at present being used by the recruiting ollice in the Post and Telegraph Buildings, Cathedral Square. Statements to that effect had been made, but the idea was still in the "rumour" stage. The recruiting ollicers had not yet considered it necessary to arrange for fresh otlices. It is of inestimable advantage that the recruiting office should be in the most central and. accessible position possible. It is only since it shifted from the King Edward Barracks to its present premises that it has really become a recruiting office in actuality as well as in name. Previous to this, the C.D.C. were responsible for the bulk of the enlistments.
