SUMNER-REDCLIFFS.

» I'rotn Our Own Correspondent. The annual meeting of the parishioners of All Saints Church was held last evening, the vicar (the Rev. Mr Galwey) presiding over a fair attendance. The balance-sheet showed that the receipts were:—Sumner £296 11/4, Redcliffs £43 3/11, total, £.339 15/3: expenditure, £337 17/9, leaving a balance of £1 17/6 to credit. In reviewing the year's work, the vicar said that the past year had been a very difficult one, owing to the many changes which had taken place. He regretted that several good church workers had left the district. The average attendances at morning and evening services had been 70, and the number of communicants 1658. The Sunday School classes were satisfactory, and the religious instruction classes at the Public School had been well attended, especially at Red cliffs. He also referred to the good work done by Mr G. Stenuiug and other workers. The question of the building of a new church was touched upon, and a suggestion made that steps should be taken to start a fund for that purpose. A special vote of thanks- was passed to the Rev. Mr Thorpe for his assistance during the year. It was arranged to set up a special committee of Redcliffs re sidents to arrange matters in connection with the Redclifl's Mission Hall. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr and Mrs W. Tait for their active interest in all church work during their sojourn in the district. The following officials were appointed: —Churchwarden, Mr E. G. Wood; vestry, Messrs J. M. B. Craw ford, K. Denham, W. Bailey, C. Benjamin, H. A. Adley, J. D. Watson, C. MuJcock, C. R. Trinder, 11. B.> Brown, and Dr Gosset. The Sumner School Committee held its first meeting last night, when the following were present:—Messrs 1). Lumsden (chairman), R. W. Winter, J. Lang, C. Lawson, M. Laurensou, and Mrs W. G. Roberts The report stated that the roll uumbei was 241, and average attendance 217. It was decide*! to communicate with the Education Board regarding combustion stoves for heating, and the erection of a teachers' room and oflice. Matters in connection with the water supply ware left in the hands of the Works Committee. Mr J. Lang resigned from the -Works Committee, and was appointed secretary. The sunshine record for the past week was 32 hours 35 minutes, as compared with 4S hours 10 minutes for the same period last year. There was no sunshine on the 6th, and eight hours or over on the Ist ami 3rd. A special meeting of the Sumner Burgesses' Association was held on Saturday, when the proposed drainage scheme was discussed. The following resolution was carried: —"That, with regard to the proposed drainage scheme for Sumner, in view of the statement made by the Mayor at the public meetig held last week, to the effect that it will be utterly impossible at present to obtain the iron material required for constructing the works, this meeting is of opinion that nothing is to be gained by any further discussion at the present time." It was decided to invite the Sumner Beautifying Association to amalgamate with the Burgesses' Association. It was also resolved to bring under the notice of the council the necessity for convenience's for ladies at. the Scarborough end of the beach. The Presbyterian Church Committee met, on Saturday evening, the Rev. T. McDonald presiding. It was reported that the elocutionary evening lately given in Sumner by the Rev. Mr Paterson had resulted in a profit of £(>. A sub committee, consisting of Messrs .1. Lang and M. Laurensou, was.appointed to obtain estimates for fencing the church grounds. Mr A. K.
