GENERAL SYNOD.
TWENTIETH SESSION. The Synod entered on the fifth day of the session this afternoon, when the Primate, the Most Rev. Nevill, D.D., Bishop, of Dunedin, presided. REPORT OF COMMITTEES. A report from the Committee of Education and Institutions was read by the Bishop of Wellington. The Bishop of Christchurch submitted an interim report on home and foreign missions. The work of the Melanesian mission was detailed, an appeal being made for helpers and financial assistance. The staff had been much depleted by deaths and sickness. Archdeacon Williams reported on the deliberations of the Committee of Trustees. All the reports, as submitted, were adopted. A MATTER OF PROCEDURE. Archdeacon Gosselt asked the president on what ground he permitted the Synod to discuss a matter at last sitting, when the Bishop of Nelson requested him to order strangers to withdraw, the president of the Synod's ruling being contrary io the standing orders. The Primate said he did not regard the request of the Bishop of Nelson that he should not press his demand that strangers should withdraw as being a discussion of that matter. (Proceeding.)
