The chairman reported that the sanitary inspectors had concluded their inspection of the district, and had accomplished much good work. It was suggested that the more thinly, populated parts should be inspected, and on the motion of Mr Spencer it was decided to retain the inspector'a services for another two weeks. Cr Boag said that he considered a recent newspaper report derogatory to himself as a member of the Hospital Board. He was prepared to resign if the county were not satisfied with him as a representative. The chairman replied that Cr Boag's services were much appreciated, and no one wished him to resign. The matter of lighting the park roads, arising out of the Lighting Committee's report, was discussed. ' Cr Boag asked if the parks were any advantage to the county. The chairman replied that they were of no benefit, but the county could not get rid, of tliem. Thereupon Cr Boag moved that the lighting of the park roads be left with the county council as long as it had control of the parks. The motion was carried. The Lighting Committee reported that the tender of Mr McCartney for carting and erecting poles had been considered, and it had been decided to advertise for other tenders. The following tenders were accepted:—T. G. Haigh, for cross arms; E. J. Ruddock, for braces; Lucas Bros., for bolts; National Importing Co., for bare copper wire. Tenders for covered wire had been considered, and it had been decided to advertise further. It had been decided to authorise Messrs Staples and Bullock to deposit at the bank, at interest for a fixed term, any part of the electrical loan not immediately required. As the engineer had not enough material to proceed with both street and house lighting it had been decided to deal with house lighting. Captain J. A. Marciel forwarded a petition signed by several residents, asking for the metalling of the road between Dudley Creek and Dallington Bridge. It was thought that there were several roads needing attention more urgently, and it was decided, on the motion of Cr Lee, to leave the matter over until the finances were in a better state, with the alternative of raising a special loan for the purpose of metalling. Acting on a letter received from the Domain Board, it was decided to erect a notice prohibiting people from tying I horses at the South Hagley Park fence, opposite the hospital.
