RACING FIXTURES. May 10 and 11-Egniont R.C. Winter. May 17 and IS—Marlborough R.C. Autumn. ACCEPTANCES. May 12—Marlborough R.C. Autumn. May 12—Auckland R.C. Winter. TROTTING FIXTURES. May 11 and 13—Forbury T.C. Winter. May 18 and 20—New Brighton T.C. Autumn. Junr 1 and 3—Canterbury Park T.C. Autumn ACCEPTANCES. May 12—New Brighton T. C. Autumn. May 24—South Wairarapa T.C. Annual. May 20 Canterbury Park T.C, Autumn. TURF TOPICS. There was a lot of merit associated with Sasanoff's victory in the Hawke's Bay Stakes, for he got badly interfered with by Grcenstrcel at the start. This left the Martian colt with a lot of leeway to make up, and he accomplished it like a genuine stayer. The light-weight horseman Ashley Reed, who steered Marc Antony to victory in the Great Autumn Handicap, was in good form at Hastings on Saturday. Three successes came his way through the agency of Sasanoff, Kooya, and Multiplication, while he was also second on Maryland in the Scurry Hack Handicap. An unfortunate incident in connection with the Hawke's Ray Cup was the failure of Pursefiiler, Rupahu, and Multicipal to leave the post. Otherwise Mr Harley's starting was of a high-class order. Morning ran two fair races in the hurdle events at Hastings, but was hardly forward enough to do himself full justice. He leaves in the course of a week or two for Melbourne, where he will be given the opportunity of earning distinction in the V.R.C. Grand National Steeplechase. Chortle put up another great performance by carrying 9.13 into second place in the Burke Memorial Handicap at Hastings on Saturday. Only for overcontidencc on the part of S. Reed, who eased his mount too son, the Multilid gelding may have reversed positions with Kooya. As the result of his victory in the Hawke's Bay Cup, Eligible has won £4730 in stake money this season, a total that has only been exceeded by Desert Gold's ,£7!)7f), which constitutes a three-year-old record. There is every probability of Eligible being entered in the Melbourne Cup and wcight-for-age events at the V.R.C. Spring Meeting, and as Desert Gold may be taken over to Flemington there is a good chance of the pair measuring strides again as four-year-olds. Sleight of Hand was made a very strong order for the Hack Hurdles on the opening day of the Hawke's Ray Meeting. When going well in the lead he struck a hurdle very hard, and toppled over. Woolloomooloo, who finished first and second in the open hurdle events al Hastings, has only been in work a few weeks. Since last sporting silk he was at the stud for two seasons. Entries for the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's Winter Meeting, to be held on June 1 and 3, close with Mr Rattray at 8 p.m. on Wednesday next. Mr A. G. Mabec, one of the recently appointed deputy stipendiary stewards, officiated for the first lime al Hie Waikato Trotting Club's Meeting on Saturday. Quite the outstanding feature of the Waikato Trotting Club's Meeting on Saturday was Master Park's performance of winning the Stewards' Handicap in 2min 13sec. The son of Young McKinncy has made vast improvement this season, and can now lake rank as one of the best mile saddle horses in the Dominion. Todd Bells, who won the chief event al the Waikato Trotting Club's Meeting on Saturday, claims engagement in the Aulumn Handicap at the New Brighton Meeting. In being placed on the 4min T)3sec mark, the northerner has been offered every inducement to make the trip. To-morrow and Saturday the course proper at New Brighton will be available for horses claiming engagements al the forthcoming meeting. Rcxcordiuru put up two very fair performances at the Waikato Trotling Club's Meeting. In the Waikato Cup he defeated all but Todd Bells, and later in the afternoon appropriated Ihe Farewell Handicap from a useful field. The Auckland-owned hurdler "Merrimax has evidently come right back to his best form in Australia, and scored his second victory within a fortnight by appropriating the jumping event al Sydney Tattersall's Meeting on Saturday last. Amongst those he defeated was Lempriere, who is looked on in many quarters as a rod in pickle for the V.R.C. Grand National Hurdle Race. The Karamu-lrained Gladl'ul won both hack hurdle events at the Hawke's Bay Meeting, and has evidently developed into a useful soil. On tlie first day his jumping left a good deal lo he desired, but his pace on the Hal stood him in good stead. In keeping with several other recently concluded meetings, there was a decided falling off in the totalisator receipts al Ihe Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Meeting. Mr H. H. Eraser, Ihe popular secretary of the South Canterbury Trotling Club, is one of ihe final selections for the position of secretary to the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club. The office will probably be allocated this evening. In connection with Ihe breeding of army remounts, the importance of the matter has been emphasised by Ihe gracious and timely action of the King in presenting his young stallion, Anmer, to the Canadian Government. Anmer, it will be recalled, was brought down while running for Craganour's sensational Derby, owing to an insane female rushing on to the course a.s the field rounded Taltenham Corner. M. Edwards is again to take up the role of mine host, having acquired

the lease of the New Brighton Hotel from Mr Geo. Payne. Very satisfactory acceptances have been received for the Forbury Park Trotting Club's Meeting, which lakes place on Thursday • and Saturday next. Eleven stand their ground in the Kitchener Handicap, including! Denver Huon, who will be making! his reappearance after a lengthy re-1 lircnicnl from the race tracks. The I only notable defection from this; event is Mako Mako, who was made 1 such a strong favourite for the only race he contested at Aldington last month. | After enjoying a spell in the Gore district, Cathedral Chimes has returned to J. Bryce's stable, to be got ready for winter racing. Three prominent New Brighton j Derby candidates in Reggie lluon,| Tamarisk, and Harold Devon will | sport silk on the opening day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club's Meet-' ing. j A special horse train leaves Christchurch al ().->() a.m. to-morrow conveying horses to Dunedin for the' Forbury Park Trotting Club's Meeting. There will also be a special; passenger train back from the fix-! tore, leaving Dunedin on Saturday j night. | A notable entrant in the two open j steeplechases at the Dunedin Jockey | Club's Winter Meeting is Kilmeny, who has not so far raced over country. The only meetings to claim the attention of sportsmen this week are i those of the Fgmont Racing Club | and the Forbury Park Trotting Club. Riccarton-trained horses bulk largely in the entries received for the Dunedin Jockey Club's Winter Meeting, and southern stables are also particularly well represented. The hurdle contingent from Canterbury includes Bore, Crib, Kilmeny, Map Dha, and Conn the Shaughraun. In the open ranks are representatives from many Riccafton stables, notably Findhorn, Martius, Twelfth ; Night, Tannhauser, Margerinc, Day- j time, Encore, Down, The Cornet, I Gnome, and Peg. Winners at the Forbury Park Trotting Club's meeting this week are liable to be re-handicapped for their engagements at the New Brighton Trotting Club's Meeting. TEMPLAR. I
