GERMANY SEEKS A SAMSON. Victories do not appear to be falling readily enough into the lap of Ciennania. A parly has dared to raise its voice clamouring for a German Samson who should deliver the Hun from his ruthless opponents, so that it is not only in England thai a section of Press and public is demanding thai the Man of the Hour shall come forth. Naturally enough, this party—these "ullra-ultra-Ger-mans"—receives an oflicial snub I through the columns of the "Munchener Post":— The longing for the advent of the "strong man" which finds expression in our Press is quite as evident even in the most reactionary organs of the Quadruple Entente. Nevertheless, this aspiration will no more be realised in Germany than in any of the belligerent Stales, because the "strong man" after whom we are all of us groping in Die dark is not to be found. And even (hough, in spile of all the appearances to the contrary, he should be found, his strength would pass like that of the lamented Samson as soon as lie assumed ollice in the place of Bethmann-Hollweg. Neither Falkenhayn, nor Tirpitz, nor, llindenburg, or whatever the names! •may be of the candidate Chancellor-j wreckers, would be able to satisfy! Ihe wishes of the iiltra-ullra-Ger-l mans without causing a riot. Why not? Because the war ideals; of the super-Germans, though they 1 are blazoned forth with great sound: and fury, do not represent the ideals of the majority. We, therefore, appeal in the interests of Germany to; those inflated countrymen whose j patriotism is so easily satisfied by Ihe hammering of a nail or two into< a wooden fetish to keep their mouths 1 shut and cease the clamour for the 1 man."
