MERIVALE v. 'VARSITY.
MAROONS OUTCLASSED. i 'Varsity took the field four short, the Territorial Casualty Camp accounting for the defection of their !players. Notwithstanding this handicap, 'Varsity opened well, but soon tired, and Merivale, assuming the i upper hand, had matters all their (own way. j Merivale kicked oil' against the I wind. In 'Varsity territory the ball, picked out of the ruck, was brilliantly handled by Henry, Ford, Burnett, and Penberthy, the last named crossing the line. Warren converted with the resulting kick. Merivale 5, 'Varsity 0. From a high i punt, Ford secured and. running strongly, outraced the opposition and scored. The kick at goal was not successful. Merivale 8, 'Varsity I (I. Over-eagerness by the blue and while backs spoilt several rushes. A pretty piece of passing between Ford and Burnett enabled Henry to cross the line. No addition to the score was made with the kick. Merivale 11, 'Varsity 0. A moment after the kick-out Marks dived over. Merivale 14, 'Varsity 0. Soon after resuming Bevis scored. Merivale 17, 'Varsity 0. 'Varsity were now a tired and beaten team, and Warren had no difficulty in forcing his way over the line. Bevis converted with a line kick. Merivale 22, 'Varsity 0. Tries were scored by Henry, Marks, Kinsman, and Ford, while Ford and Bevis kicked goals. On the spell sounding the scores were: Merivale 38, 'Varsity 0. Second Spell. On resuming the play became very, •agged. Tries for Merivale were scored by Henry (2), Burness (2), White (2), Kinsman (1), and Kennedy, while Bevis kicked a goal. A short rally was made by 'Varsity, 4ood play by Haldane enabling Penberthy to score. The game ended: Merivale 64 j 'Varsity 3 LINWOOD v. MERIVALE B. \ As .only six Merivale players put : n an appearance at linwood Park, 'Jnwood won the game by default. SECOND* GRADE. West Christchurch District High School heal Marists by 13 points to lil. The scorers for the winners vere Wiseman, Hanhan, and Dixon. Orchard converted two tries. Beferee: Mr E. G. Watkins. Technical College v. Boys' High School A was won by High School, with a score of 6 to 3. E. Bowes scored two tries for High School, snd for the losers J. Ward kicked a >oal from a mark. Referee: Mr L. Selwood. Telegraph Messengers v. Boys' ligh School B was won by Boys' ligh School, with a score of 21 to lil. The scorers for the winners .vere Walker (2), Watkins (3), Ranin (1), with a penalty goal by 'iantin. Referee: Mr H. Mackintosh.
