A SHIP TORPEDOED. A WARNING TO GERMANY. RIO DE JANEIRO, May 5. It is officially confirmed that the Brazilian steamer Rio Braneo has (been torpedoed. This has caused a j sensation in Brazil. The Government has notified the ; German Legation that it has ordered !an urgent enquiry in order to take I action in defence of Brazil's rights jas a neutral. The newspapers say that Germany regards herself as being at war with the whole world, and they call upon the President of Bra2il to 'rise to the level of the country's destinies. i [The Rio Braneo was a steamer of 2258 | tons gross register, built in 18SH, and owned by a firm in Kio de Janeiro.]
