RED CROSS.

WAXPARA. A very successful social was, held in Mr J. 0. T. Baker's shed, Wiipara, in aid. of the Waipara. Red Cross Fund, which will benefit by close on £lB. The' shed was prettily decorated and the floor was in splendid order. Much praise is due to Mr and Mrs Baker for their efforts to make the social a success. Mr and Mrs Whyte kindly gave their services for the supply of music, and extras were played by Mesdames Ferguson, Cole, Harrison, McFarlane, Miss Inch, and Mr Glennie. Mrs Cameron gave buttonholes and Mr Carson donations,, aud a guessing competition for a box of chocolates, given by Miss Wliitmore, helped to swell the funds. Songs were given by Mrs Doyle, Messrs Dalton, Doyle, and Withers, and a recitation by Mr Gardiner. The ladies of the Red Cross supplied a splendid supper. The gathering was the most successful of its kind held in the district. The piano was kindly lent by Mr Sloper. Mr Knowles carried out the duties of I M.C. in a capable manner. I
