SHIPPING NOTES.

The coasting steamer Awahou, which arrived at Lytteiton last week from Wellington with transhipments ex steamer Werribee from the Pacific Coast, is due to-mor-row with a further consignment.

Messrs G. H. Scalcs's chartered steamer Dalmore is due at Lyttclton this afternoon from Timaru to load about 3000 bales of wool for London. The vessel will sail tomorrow for Wellington to complete her loading. Having completed her overhaul, the coasting steamer Wootton was brought off the patent slip yesterday, and sailed last night for Akaroa to load cattle for Fox ton. The vessel subsequently proceeds to Nydia Bay to load timber lor Lyttelton. The Union Company's Moeraki, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from Hobart and Sydney, brought transhipments ex steamers Arabia, Sierra, and Kooyong, the following being the principal lines:—2 cases sewing machines, 33 sacks rice, 25 sacks hemp seed, 3480 sacks gypsum, 6 cases drugs, G cylinders gas, 5 cases drapery, 15 bales stockinette, 35 bales mats, 30 drums cable, 2 cases cutlery, 28 bundles pipes, 5 cases varnish, 0 coils electric wire, 6 cases phonograph goods, 15 cases dates, 18 cases medicines, 3 cases infant food, 40 crates bottles, 13 parcels periodicals, 80 pieces oak, 40 kegs tartaric acid, 10 bars munition steel, 1200 bags ground bark, 20 drums oil, 80 boxes prunes, 3 cases glass globes, 600 sacks salt, 150 bundles palings, 4 cases electric parts, 3 crates electric goods, and 90 cases fruit. The vessel is due at Lyttelton to-morrow, and sails in the evening for Sydney and Hobart, via Wellington. Following the usual custom at this time of the year, the following steamers of the New Zealand Shipping Company's Line will make Rio de Janeiro a port of call:—Ruahine, to leave New Zealand January 29; Rotorua, to leave February 21; Rimutaka, to leave March 23; Turakina, to leave April 20; and Ruapehu, to leave May 18. The Union Company's steamer Karitanc met with an accident through striking an uncharted rock near Stratum (Tasmania) Harbour recently. She was bound to Strahan from Sydney with a cargo of coke when she struck. A course was made for Melbourne, where she was immediately doeked for repairs, the damage consisting of some buckled plates and a lift hole amidships. Captain Chillies Ross, late chief olllcer of the R.M.S. Moana, was .11 charge of the vessel. Bound from Calcutta to Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton, the cargo steamer Waihoia passed Goode Island, on the Queensland coast, last Thursday.
