ROTORUA CAMP.
TO BE OPENED ON WEDNESDAY NEXT. Press Association. WELLINGTON, January ::. Tlio Hon. G. \V. Eussell states that the Rotorua military convalescent camp, which is now completed, will be opened on Wednesday of nest week. It is expected that a number of Cabinet Ministers and members of Parliament will be present at the opening ceremony. The building occupies a commanding position on the summit of Pukcroa LI ill. It overlooks the Maori village of Ohinemutu, and looks right across Mokoia Island. On each side of the building is an octagon capable of providing bedding accommodation for 150 to 1200 men, or 300 to 400 in all. If needed, another octagon can be thrown out to the rear to accommodate as many men as either of the other octagons. The whole structure has been erected on the open-air system. The architect has been instructed to at once make provision for tanks holding 10,000 gallons of water as a reserve, and for fire protection. A largo work shed is also to bo immediately erected, so that provision may be made for instructing the convalescents in various trades. The first work to which they will be set is that of constructing all the lockers for the wards. Colonel Newall is now in charge of the whole of the men at liutorua, both in the convalescent camp and in hospital. The accommodation at the hospital is being increased so as to provide beds for S4 men in all. The < ouvalesc.cnt camp is to be retained strictly for convalescents, and any eases of sickness that occur at the camp will be at once transferred to the hospital for treatment.
