CITIZENS' DEFENCE CORPS.
The Woolstou-OpaAva unit held a concert on Wednesday evening. There was a small attendance of members and their wives. During the evening speeches were given bv Mr G. Harper (president of the C.D.C.), Captain C. Morris, Mr G. Hanmer, and Captain H. S. Newman, who accepted the position of O.C. No. 3 unit.
Although the audience Avas small, the speeches and other items were thoroughly appreciated. During the refreshment interval prizes were presented for the shooting competitions. The first prize (£2 2/-, presented by Mr G. Hanmer) was won by Private T. Carson, and the second prize (£1 1/-, presented by Mr H. E. Bruce) was won by Private T. Hull. A special prize (presented by Private A. Lawson), won by Private W. A. Howell, was handed back for a future competition. The thanks of the- unit are d,ue to Miss Glawdys Hopping, and to the ladies for supplying the refreshments. It is the intention of this unit to hold a recruiting rally on Wednesday evening next, when it is hoped to secure the services of a band for a march through the borough.
