PATRIOTIC FUND.

THE PENINSULA EFFORT. A committee meeting of the Waiwera branch of the Banks Peninsula War Funds Appeal was held in the library, Little River, on Thursday. Mr W. H.Montgomery was voted.to the chair. The chairman reported that £1684 5/6 had been realised from the sale of,the Union Jack on Saturday November 20. The sale of two cases; of apples, donated by Mr E. A. Patten, of Puaha, Little River, sold on show day, realised £5 ,5/-, and the following amounts were raised by the Girls' Friendly Society—£4 10/- at the concert and £25 2/- at the show —making a total of £29 12/-. Mr L. Harper, who gave half of his proceeds to No. 2 Queen, was fnl in adding £4 14/6 to the funds. Mr Montgomery moved that a banking account be opened in the Bank/ of New Zealand, Christchurch,. in the name of the Banks Peninsula War Fund Appeal, Waiwera branch, into which all receipts be paid by the secretary, and that all cheques be signed by the chairman, secretary, and treasurer. -This was carried. Quealy was elected treasurer. The local committee elected to canvass Gebbie's Valley, Kaituna, and Price's Valley was as follows:—J. C. C. Gebbie, E. A. Radford, T. Quealy, W. F. Parkinson, F. Field, and F. Coop. Mr F. Birdling was appointed a member of the General Committee.

Mr J. C. C. Gebbie proposed:—"That this meeting is strongly of opinion that

the numbers on the Queen tickets should not be altered, and that this resolution be forwarded to the chairman of ..the General Committee for consideration.*' Carried unanimously. It was decided to have the Waiwera

and Mount Herbert Gala on Boxing Day at Little River. The following committee was appointed to malke arrangement's gala:—J. F.'Buchanan, J. Q. Coop, E. Samuels, T. T. "Thompson, Stan. Birdling, J; Chapman, F. Coop,. H. Chapman,, H.' Lewthwaite, A. Y, Hutchinson, W. Radford, F. Fahey, L. Fahey, S. T. Harris, A. Breitmeyer, A. Young, T. Williams, T. Stanbury, W. F. Parkinson, and J. C. CGebbie. Mr' H. Lewthwaite was appointed" assistant secretary. An offer from Mr H. F. French to run a cocoanut shy at the gala was accepted. A meeting of the sub-committee tomake arrangements for Boxing Day was fixed for Saturday night. A meeting representing the Ellesmere Springs, Waiwera, and Mount Herbert Counties will be held in the library, Little River, on December 14.
