RED CROSS.

BROMLEY. The monthly meeting of the Bromleybranch of Bed Cross workers was held on Thursday afternoon, Miss Moore presiding. There was a good attendance, and much useful work was brought in. Monthly subscriptions were handed in, and a vote of thanks was passed to the givers, also to Mr J. B. Merritt for the sale of eggs and ducks for the benefit of the branch. The members offered their assistance to the Men's Committee, who are organising a '' fair,'' to be held early in the New Year, to raise funds to assist the Bromley Branch of Eed Cross, in conjunction with the Veterans' Convalescent Home Fund. % CATHOLIC BRANCH. The members of the Catholic Red Cross held their first sewing meeting on Tuesday, when m there wa3 a splendid attendance. The branch is now in good working order, and fine service is being rendered. BANDAGE WORK. It has been stated that there is a falling-off in the attendance of men bandage workers at the central depot. This 4s to be regretted, since the call for bandages is exceedingly heavy, and an increasing number is wanted every month. It is hoped that the musters will improve, and that the attendances [will become as satisfactory as they were in tho beginning. HALSWELL. A meeting of the Ilalswcll Patriotic and Red Cross Committee was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday night, Mr E. Paterson presiding over a good attendance. The secretary reported that the sum of £l2 5/4 had been received from the concert given by the members of the Christchureh Tramways Comedy Troupe and Band. It was resolved that the concert party be accorded a hearty vote of thanks. It was also decided to forward a letter thanking the mem-1

bers of the Halswell Tennis Club for their donation of £6 7/-. A letter was received from the president of the Halswell Sports Club offering to run the sports on behalf of the Bed Cross Fund. The offer was accepted with thanks, the members agreeing to assist the club as much as possible. The bachelors of Halswell were thanked for their donation of £3 8/-. It was ttecided to open an account with the Bank of New South Wales, and the treasurer and the chairman were authorised to operate on the account on behalf of the committee. Donations were received from Messrs T. Murphy (£1) and H. Gibbs (10/-). CITY BRANCH. i ■■■ A city branch has been established at 119 Worcester Street for the issue of free work to residents within the city area. All who are unable to help in any other way are invited to give their services in making up material, which may be obtained on any afternoon during the hours of from 2 to 5 p.m. PROHIBITION LEAGUE. At the last meeting of the Prohibition League it was decided that in the future the weekly meetings will be devoted to working for the Red Cross League. A sum of money was collected in the room to buy material, etc., "and a proper start will be made on Thursday, 9th inst., at 8 o'clock.

SACRED CONCERT. To-morrow evening a Red Cross sacred concert will be given in Everybody's Theatre. Madame Gower Bums, the well-known soprano, will sing "O, Divine Redeemer" (Gounod) and "Come Unto Him" (from/'The Messiah"); two trips will be contributed by Misses Lalla Hemus, Daisy Cresswell, and Lilian Harper; Mr Leonard Barnes will sing Schumann's "Two Grenadiers"; and Mr Prank McDonald will recite Kipling's "Liehtenberg." Miss Agnes Richardson will sing "Soul of Mine" (Barnes), and Miss Stella Murray will sing Beethoven's "The Praise of God." Mr Alfred Worsley and Mrs Angus have kindly consented to play the accompaniments.
