AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

THE CANTERBURY CENTRE. A meeting of the committee oi'Ythe Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last, evening- Present: Messrs A. L. Chappell (president), 11. R. Sellers, C. S. Thomas, I\ Menzies, and.F. H. Salter. The executive committee reported that its. principal work since the previous meeting -of the centre committee had been the arrangement of matters in 'connection with the sports which the centre is to hold at the River Bank Carnival on December 16. A programme for these sports had been drawn up, in which provision was made chiefly for secondary schools .and primary schools championships and for other children's events of various kinds, and this programme had been distributed widely. The following officials were appointed for the River Bank Carnival, and Sports: —Track' judges: Professor Blunt, Messrs A. E. Flower, P. S. Cox; referee, Dr E. Jennings; field judges, Messrs W. De Tliier and H. R. Sellers; track stewards, Messrs F. H. Salter, E. T. C. S. Harper, D. Hoare; timekeepers,' Messrs R. Wallace, C. K. Whale, A. W. Jones, G. T. Batley; starter, Mr P. Menzies; handicapper, C. S. McCully; dressing room stewards, Messrs L. A. Dougall and B. P. Murray; marksmen, Messrs F. H. Salter, E. T. Harper, V. J. Gamble; Press Stewards, Messrs W. B. Thomas, R. Twyneham, A. R. Blank; stewards, Messrs H. R. Sellers, C. S. Harper, F. T. Evans, C. S. Thomas, G. H. Mason; result board, Messrs A. R. Blank and E. E. Luttrell; survey steward, left to executive; clerk of course, Mr C. S. McCully. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Sellers, Menzies, and McCully, was set up to deal with the entries' for the open events and secondary and primary school championships at the sports —which will close at 5 p.m. on December 7—and to arrange a time-table for the sports. Messrs F. 11. Salter, R. Wallace, and C. S. McCully were appointed a subcommittee to arrange derails in connection with the miscellaneous events for children.

A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs C. S. Thomas and F. H. Salter, was set up to revise the centre's rules and report to the centre committee. The president reported that the Methven Caledonian Society had applied for permission to hold amateur events in its sports meeting on December 16, and that the application had been granted subject to certain conditions. CANTERBURY ATHLETIC CLUBS' PROTECTION ASSOCIATION. Mr A. Stewart presided at the monthly meeting of the committee. Defaulters were reported by the Sydenham and Richmond Swimming Clubs, and the Riccarton Cricket Club. Six cases were finally declared defaulters, three were struck off the list, being now financial, and two were held over. The Akaroa Boating Club applied for, and was granted, affiliation to the association. It was decided that the annual issue of new defaulters' lists to clubs be deferred until early next year, the clubs being approached in the meantime with a view to having the association \s lists thoroughly revised.
