In the House of Commons Mr Philip Snowdon requested the prosecution of the Bishop of Salisbury, on a charge of threatening clergymen who enlist with the loss of their livings. He asked whether Lord Derby is canvassing the clergy. The Hon H. J. Tennant, in reply, said that clergy who had enlisted had been put into proper age groups. He was not aware of the Church leader's reported statements. The War Office was not disposed to act against those who believed that clergymen and nearly qualified medical men would serve best by remaining athome.
