The Victorian wheat crop is officially estimated at 50,500,000 bushels. ; ' BUTTER EXPORT PROHIBITED. : ' (Received December 2, 10.10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, December 2. The export of butter from the Commonwealth has been prohibited. Victoria is the only State manufacturing butter in excess of its own requirements. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, November 27. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot) Meat.—The market continues dull at lower prices except for ewes, for reasons already given during last week. Mutton. —Canterbury 7d per lb for lightweight, heavy-weiglit 6gd. There are only a few other brands than Canterbury available, and they are not quoted. Ewes, a good demand, s|d. Lamb.—Canterbury two's per lb, heavy.-weight fores 7d, second-class quality light-weights 7id, other brands than Canterbury 7|d for best quality light-weight, ordinary quality 6|d. Beef. —New Zealand second quality liinds s<kl, fores 4fd; chilled, a moderate supply—hinds 7|d, fores sid. , Butter. —The market is firm, with a good demand for best: , quality. Danish, market quiet, but firm, per cwt, 178/- to 182/-; Siberian, 128/- to 134/-; Irish creamery, supplies decreasing, 158/- to 164/-; Australian, 158/- up to 164/-, good to fine 154/to 156/-, unsalted 160/- to 166/-; Nqw Zealand (Otaki shipment already sold), 162/to 164/- up to 166/-, good to fine 158/- to 160/-; Argentine, 156/- to 160/-i unsalted 160/to 166/-. - Cheese.—The market is advancing steadily. Canadian, strong market, very little else offering, white .and coloured per cwt SO/- to 92/-; English Gheddar, flr-i market, 98/to 100/-; Cheshire 106/- to 110/ for fine to finest;' United States, a good demand, 84/to 88/-; Siberian, a good demand, 80/- to 82/-, low grade 78/-; New Zealand* nothing offering.

I Hemp.—The market is rather quiet. Buyers are cautious. New Zealand, -good ifair, per ton, on spot, £35 10/-, fair £33 10/-; Manila, new graded fair, £42, coarse £34, January to March shipment, New Zealand, good fair £35, fair £33; Manila;' new graded fair £4l 10/-, coarse £33 10/-. The output from Manila for the week was 23,000 bales. ! Wheat.—The market is steady,,with an improved demand. Canadian, on spot, per quarter, 56/ : ; November to December-ship-ment, 54/-; Australian, to arrive in January," 60/-. Oats.—The market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker. Argentine, on spot, per quarter, .31/-November to December shipment, 30/-. Wool.—The market is strong. CUSTOMS. ! The Customs receipts at Christchurch yesterday amounted to £1548 13/8. Of this amount £23 16/9 was for beer duty, and the balance for general Customs. . The monthly return for November gives the net amount received, as £31,407 4/2, as against £33,423 15/6 for the same period last year. The beer duty for November, 1915;' was £1695 0/5, against £5164 18/4 for November, 1914. The amount received in primage during the month was £1915 10/^.
