QUEEN CARNIVAL.

BANKS PENINSULA.

Mr W. F. Parkinson, of Kaituna, presided over a meeting of representatives of counties in Banks Peninsula in the City Council Chambers yesterday afternoon, to discuss the attitude of the interested districts towards the proposal to have a Peninsula Queen in the carnival competitions. Mr E. R. Webb, representing the Christchurch executive, made an explanation of ihe way in which it is intended to raise the funds. He said that adequate steps would be taken to . protect the interests of the; separate districts taking part in the carnival. He was quite certain that each district which exceeded the quota allotted to it would receive credit for its action, and contributions in excess of. the quotas would foster the spirit of competition that would make the carnival specially interesting. Mr Webb said, in reply to a delegate, that practically all the counties in North Canterbury had agreed to raise the quota allotted to them. It was eventually decided to leave arrangements in the care of the Gerieral Committee; which will meet at the Hill Top on Wednesday afternoon. WHOLESALE AND RETAIL CHEMISTS' SECTION. Practically all the firms were represented at a meeting of the chemists' sub-sectioa of the wholesale and, retailers' section held last evening. The following officers were elected President, Mr Andrew Borrows; committee, the president, and Messrs Papprill and Owen; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr L. Bonnington; auditor, Mr H. East. It was agreed to accept the invitation of the Professions and Commerce section to join forces. TAILORING. TRADE. Mr S. A. Orchard, president of the tailoring trade sub-seption of the wholesale and retail section, explained the objects of the movement at a meeting of the sub-section held in the St. John Ambulance Association's rooms last evening. Officers were elected as follow:—Mr S. Walker (chairman), Mr M. Orchard (hon. secretary), and Messrs J. L. Vergette, J. S. -Gray, and W. Coleman (committee) with power to a<ld. * % BOOT TRADE. At a meeting of representatives of the boot trade sub-section in the wholesale and retail section, the following committee was elected:— Messrs J. De Feu (temporary chairman), D. Duthie, H." T. Herbert, T. Chisnall, Stewart Robinson, J. Benjes, and G. Nicholson (secretary). SOLDIERS' QUEEN. The Ladies' Committee of the Soldiers' Queen section met in the C.D.C. rooms last evening, Mr W. W. Charters, president of the section, and Captain McGee being present. It was decided to join forces with the nurses, if the latter were agreeable. A meeting of the Nurses' Committee was held, and the proposal accepted, and the meeting then became a joint one. Dr Alice Moorhouse was elected permanent chairwoman, and Miss Shirtcliffe, of the Addington School, secretary. There were not enough present to form a scouts' sub-section, so the matter was left to a later meeting. The same course will be followed by the bands, Lieut. Siddall agreeing to arrange with the band masters on Saturday for the purpose. PROFESSIONS AND COMMERCE. Representatives of auctioneers, land agents, and meat companies will hold a meeting in the Art Gallery tonight, at 8 o'clock.
