NEW EDUCATION DISTRICTS.

DISCUSSED BY EDUCATION BOARD.

Mr C. H. Opie', chairman of the Education Board, gave a report at to-day's meeting covering the decisions reached by the Council of Education, relative to the new sub-divi-sion of the Dominion into education districts. Mr Opie said that the Canterbury Board would-consist of 12 members. The Tirnaru urban/ area, with a school population of 2000, would have two representatives, while the South Canterbury country area with a larger population would be entitled to only one representative. He was of opinion that that basis of representation ;was open to criticism. The West Coast would have one and Canterbury eight, four each for the urban rural areas. In subsequent discussion members of the board expressed the opinion that the various education boards would have a much better idea of how the various wards should be constituted, and what representation they should have, than the Minister, and it was decided that a special committee should be appointed to discuss the question of what the ward boundaries should
