Rutherford, who , was 72 years old, was born in ' New South Wales, and educated in Ade- , laide. When 15 years old he came to . Canterbury with his parents, Who settled in ISGO at Leslie Hills Station, which was his father's property. Mr Rutherford managed Leslie Hills until lie took over "Montrose," in the Waiau 1 County, in 1576. He was a member of 1 the Amuri Road Board before the Amuri 1 County Council was constituted, and 1 was a member of the I-lurunui Rabbit 1 Board from 1890 onwards, becoming its chairman in 1896. In 1876 he married Miss Godfrey, of Nelson, who survives him. He leaves five sons and one daughter. Mr Rutherford was one of the oldest members of the Canterbury Cale- ! donian Society and was a life member of it. At the society's celebration of St. Andrew's Day, last evening, the president (Mr C. S. Thomas) made feeling reference- to Mr Rutherford's death, and stated that he had requested the secretary to write to Mrs Rutherford i expressing the society's deep symJ pathy. • .
