. Mrs and Miss Helmore have returned from their visit to South Canterbury. Mrs Walter Perry is staying with Mrs George Rhodes, Beverley. ; Miss Wallace (Christchurch) is staying in Levin as the guest of Mrs Sapen. Mrs Alfred P. Robinson, Mount Tenara, is spending a few weeks' holiday at Sumner with her mother, Mrs Monck. Miss Adair 3\£cMaster (North Canterbury) is visiting the Misses. Piper, Oamaru. • Mrs Crisp (Ashburton) is coming into town this week with her son, Mr Percy Crisp, who ia on final leave from Trentham. Miss Mcßae was a passenger for the north last evening. - Mr and Mrs Alfred family have arrived at Hobart on their way to New Zealand. Before leaving England Mr the honour of conducting the famous London Symphony Orchestra, of which Landon Ronald is the permanent conductor. Mr and Mrs Lewton (Amberley) are in town, and are staying at the CJarendon. Mrs Merton (Parle Terrace) is giving an "at home'' to-day. Mr an<jl Mrs Hamilton are, returning to Fairlie to-day. Mademoiselle Gadrat-has returned to Christchurch from a visit to Wellington. The annual dinner in connection with the McLean Institute was held at the Henrietta Tea Rooms last evening. Besides the ladies residing at "Quamby" and '' Holly Lea,'' there were present the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs H. Holland, and the members of the Board of Governors. The dinner tablp was beautifully decorated in two shades of pink sweet peas, in pewter vases, and the menu was printed in patriotic colours. Orchestra selections were played during the dinner, which was concluded with the usual toast list.
