LITTLE RIVER.

From Our Corresptndent. \ A severe windstorm on Monday was followed by a very sultry, though calm, day on Tuesday. In ordinary circumstances it would have been natural to expect rain, but after the long spell of. dry weather we have been enjoying (?) people were rather shy in speculating about rain. However, those few bold spirits who did venture! to prophecy rain were rewarded, for about 7 p.m. a slight shower was 'experienced, and there is promise of a few more "such, though there will be no very serious rainfall. A committee meeting of the Banks Peninsula A. and P. Association was held in the Public Library at Little River on Saturday last. Over 20 members were present. Mr H. Montgomery (president), who had just received news that Trooper R. Birdling had been killed on Gallipoli Peninsula, moved the following resolution:—"That this committee learns with the deepest regret the loss of Trooper R. Birdling, killed in action at the Dardanelles, and desires to extend its sincere sympathy to Mr/and Mrs F. j Birdling and the members of their j family." ' It was decided to form an Agri- j cultural Committee to deal with all agricultural matters such as the testing of seeds, experimental plots, pruning, etc. The secretary announced that over £IOO had now been offered in special prices. A sub-committee was appointed to consider the advisability of including classes for poultry in the programme, and to report at the next General Committee meeting. The president moved that a junior section be introduced, in which any child within a 20-mile radius might compete. A committee comprising the local school teachers and one or two outside members will draw up. a programme for the consideration of the General Committee.
