CANTERBURY AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

• ANNUAL MEETING. The twelfth annual meeting of the Canterbury Automobile Association was held in the Chamber of Commerce Hall last evening, Mr F. W. Johnston (president) presiding over a good attendance of members. The annual report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. Mr F. "W. Johnston remarked that at the last annual meeting Mr Climie had moved that the General Committee should split up into sub-committees, and thus relieve the = General Committee of a great" deal of the work. This had been carried out, and the speaker considered that it had been largely responsible for the great success of ,the year's working. Mr Climie moved that the rules of the, association be amended to read as follows —"The officers of the association shall consist of a president, one

vice-president (instead of four), - secretary and hon. treasurer"; and 4 'There shall be a General Committee consisting of the" officers and nine, members (instead of seven), the retiring president to be an ex-officio member of the committee for one -year after retirement." Mr Climie stated that he considered it advisable to have! only one vicepresident. The position would then have more honour attached to it. The motion was carried unanimously. The election of officers for the. ensuing year resulted as follow: —Patron, his Excellency Lord Liverpool; president, Mr A. S. Clarkson; vice-president, Mr H. W. Piper; hon. treasurer, Mr W. H. Tisdallj hon. auditor, Mr C. Allison; committee, Messrs P. R. Climie, J. S. Hatfkes, E. W. Mills, F. Hubbard, D. McMillan, E. James, R. B. Walker, A. Morten, and W. J. Scott. Mr Johnston said that lie was-very pleased with the response of the members of the association to the committee's appeal for.cars, for the conveyance of returned wounded soldiers. There had "been about ; 35 responses .from the members, and these, together with those of the committee, amounted to

45, which was very satisfactory. ./The Citizens' Defence Corps had on several occasions asked the association to pro- V; vide cars, and he was pleased thatthey ; ■ had never had to be refused. - The incoming president,'' Mr A. S» * • Clarkson, heartily thanked the ; bers for electing him to the office. He , moved that the past president (Mx. t >. Johnston) be accorded a very hearty " vote of thanks for his Btrenuous work. t ' during the past year. N . " The motion was endorsed by a greatf v. many members, and the motion -was' ' most enthusiastically carried. ' Mr Johnston responded, and moved -; a very hearty vote of thankto the ■ other retiring officers. This, was car-' I ried unanimously. , - '
