A WIFE'S HEROISM.
IN DEATH NOT DIVIDED. A LUSITANIA EPISODE. Press Association. AUCKLAND, August 2:'.. Auckland and Australian travellers in America who returned by the R.M.S. Niagara from Vancouver, which arrived here to-day, have been in touch with survivors of the Lusitania outrage and are able to give information as to the sad end of Mr and Mrs J. C. Macky, two wCll-known citizens of Auckland, who were drowned in the terrible disaster.
Mr and Mrs - Mucky, they state, met tlieir end with calmness aiul heroism. When the boats were being lowered there was one seat left, which was offered to Mrs Macky. Quietly and firmly sho declined it in favour of a younger woman. '' I am getting old, and would rather stay with my. husband. You arc younger and have life before you,"she is reported to have said to the other lady. The last glimpse of the couple was of them standing on deck calmly awaiting the end. On arrival in London the lady to whom Mrs Macky surrendered her seat advertised to obtain the address of Mr Jack Macky, and told him: the story of Uis parents' death.
