THE LABOUR MARKET.
UNEMPLOYMENT DECREASING.
The number of unemployed registered with the Labour Department during the past week is as follow: Carpenters 8 Engine-drivers .. .. 2 Painters 2 Labourers 55 Total ..' .. .. 67 Of this number, the two enginedrivers have been placed in Government employment, two labourers have been found private employment, and 27 are in Government work. Since July 30, 27 married and 12 single men failed to renew their applications, and the total number for whom work is still required is 48. Ten pick-and-shovel men are required for Otira. These figures show a considerable improvement in the position regarding unemployment, by comparison with that obtaining a few weeks ago.
