DARDANELLES CASUALTIES. LIEUT.-COLONEL J. FINDLAY. ' Lieuteiiant-Colonel J. Findlay, officer commanding the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, who has been wounded, is a well-known farmer in the Mid Canterbury district. He saw a good deal of service in the South African war. He left New Zealand for South Africa as a lieutenant in the Southland Mounted Rifles. He led No 2 squadron of the

2nd Contingent. At that time he was under the late Colonel Hayhurst. He holds the Queen's Medal with five clasps. When the; present war broke out he was a major pn the reserve of officers of the 7th. (Southland) Mounted Rifles. He immediately applied for active service and was posted to the command of the Ist (Canterbury) Mounted Regiment. • ; CAPTAIN W. I. K. JENNINGS. Captain W. I. K. Jennings, Otago Battalion, who is reported to have been wounded, is the only son of Dr Jennings, of Christchurch, and is 23 years old. He was educated at the Huntley School, Marton, and at Christ's College. At each he was head prefect, champion athlete and captain of football and cricket. When the Royal-Military College at Duntroori, New South Wales, was instituted he entered it, in June 1911,

and there took an active part in the college life. He _ was one of the most prominent Rugby footballers and cricketers in the college, and passed all his examinations successfully. When the war broke out he, together with all the other New Zealand fourth year students, volunteered for active service. He was posted to the Otago Battalion as a lieutenant. A week after the battalion landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula he was promoted to be captain. LIEUTENANT W. DEANS. Lieutenant W. Deans, Canterbury Mounted Rifles, who is reported to have been wounded, is a son of Mrs J. Deans, of Riccartori, and is 25 years old. He was educated at the Christchurch Boys' High School, and subsequently took up farming iwith his brothers at Sandown, Homebush. Lieutenant Deans went to the

front with the C.Y.C. squadron of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, in the Main Expeditionary Force. Some weeks ago it was reported that he was ill and was being sent to England. Apparently, however, he recovered from his illness without having to be sent to England, and returned to the .front.
