ONE YEAR'S WAR.

DECLARATION DAY. VARIOUS CELEBRATIONS. In connection with the Declaration Day celebrations, the local Ministers' Association has arranged special services. Early morning services will be held in various churches for intercession, and a united service of intercession will take place in St. Paul's from 12 noon to 2 p.m. In the evening, at 7.45, a special united patriotic service will be held in Durham Street. The Mayor, Mr Holland, will preside, and public bodies will be represented. The great patriotic resolution will be carried, and a collection will be taken up in aid of the Patriotic Fund. The Rev. J. J. North will speak on "imperishable Gains of the War," and review, jthe work accomplished during the past year, Dr Erwin will take as his subject, "The Remaining Task," and deal with the work still to be accomplished; the Revs. J. Paterson, H. Johnson, S. Lawry, and R. Gebbie will also take part. The special hymns include Kipling's "Recessional," and Bishop Boy d-Carpen-tpr's "O God, the Strength.", A PUBLIC GATHERING. At a public gathering to be held in the King Edward Barracks at 8.30 p.m. the Mayor of Christchurch will preside; and all the suburban" boroughs will be asked to be represented. The C.D.C. Band will play from ;-8 p.nji,-iand several addrejsse& •will be delivered and the 'patriotic' resolution received from the Government submitted. LiNWOOD AND RICHMOND. A public patriotic will be held in the Avonside Sunday school" room evening when the Empire resbilitioii will be adopted. The speakers'will be the Rev. W. A. Sinclair, Capitairi Marciel, and Messrs T.W.. Rowe arid H. D. Acland. Musical items will be given. RICCARTON. The Mayor of Riccarton invites the burgesses to attend the meeting in the King Edward Barracks to-mor-row evening at 8.30 LYTTELTON. ; At Lytteltow to-morrow, a patriotic meeting; will be held at the Borough Council Chambers at 4 p.m. {not 8 p.m., as originally announced).. ' The Salvation Army will hold a special meeting. in the Salvation Army hall. The meeting will be conducted by Major Newby, Provincial Commander for the provinces of Canterbury and Westland, assisted by/.Staff-Captain Gunn, Provincial Secretary, and : Chancellor for the above provinces. There will, also be present Adjutant Macaujay, trade manager for the South Island, Adjutant Wellington, Provincial Young People's Secretary, and Captain McKenzie, officer commanding the Lytteltori Corps. CALEDONIAN SOCIETY. The Canterbury Caledonian Society will hold a patriotic gathering at their ' rooms to-morrow night. Speeches will be given by Mr Justice , Denniston and Mr J. J. Dougall, and a programme of national songs, music, and dancing will be presented.
