IF THE CALL COMES.

AMERICA AND HER HONOUR EMPHATIC STATEMENT BY METHODIST BISHOP. (Received July 28, 11.15 a.m.) J? SYDNEY, July 28. Bishop Hoss, of the American Methodist Episcopal Church, ' has arrived here by the Ventura. Referring to America's attitude towards the war, he said that 95 per cent, of Americans sympathised with the Allies—7s per cent, of them enthusiastically. President Wilson, he says, is a courageous man. Without storm or bluster, he talked straight, meant what he said, and would stand by it. America's position was delicate, and President Wilson was wisely endeavouring to use every possible means to avoid hostilities. The great body of the people knew enough of war to wholesomely dread it, but, if the issue was that the honour of America was at stake, there would not be a minute's hesitation. If the call were made, 1,000,000 men would rally to the colours in a day.
