ANNUAL ELECTIONS. HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETINGS. The annual meetings of householders for the election of school committees were held throughout the North Canterbury Education District last evening. West Christchurch. —Dr Chilton presided. Primary school roll number 701, average attendance 664. Secondary school roll number 233, average attendance 218. There were only seven nominations for the nine vacancies on the committee and these -were declared elected. They were:—Dr Chilton, and Messrs W. G. Sloan, T. J. Bettle, W. B. Bultitude. H. Holland, W. Robson, and E. Parlane. The two vacancies on the committee Avill be filled at the discretion of the Education Board from householders in the school district.

East Christchurch.—Mr G. W. Russell, M.P., presided. School roll number 710. The following committee was declared elected, no ballot being'required:—Messrs Alfred Allard, A. F. Drayton, W. Elmwood.—The meeting of householders at Elinwood last night was faced with the position that the old committee bad not been nominated, and only one name, that of Mr Sandford, was before the meeting. Mr Sandford was declared elected. The action of the old committee in standing down was the subject of some discussion and criticism. The chairman, Mr Jones, said that the majority bad decided not to stand again; soino would havo stood if they had been "nominated, but they were not going to nominate each other. Mr It. McKenzie said that the action of the members of the committee had been purely individual, and it was a protest against the treatment the committee's recommendations received by the Education Department. He complained that they had been subjected to political persecution. A resolution was passed protesting against the long continued use of the temporary iron, building, but calling on the department rb provide a porch to this structure, so that the wet garments of the children could be deposited there. A. resolution was passed- expressing appreciation of the services of the old committee nnd inviting the board to appoint as many members of that committee as would agree to act. Addington.—Mr J.
