RECOGNISED BY HUMANE SOCIETY. Before the City Council proceeded with its regular business last evening, the Mayor (Mr 11. Holland), on behalf of the Royal Humane Society, made several awards. Three small boys—Andrew Price (1.3), Frank Bryden (12), and Hayden Cheeseman (10) —were presented with letters of commendation for saving the life of another boy, aged 11, in the Selwyn River on January 29 last. In handing the awards to the recipients, the Mayor expressed his pleasure at being able to give public expression to the thankfulness that all must feel to those who had saved valuable lives. ' The recipients of the awards w r ere received with hearty applause by members of the council.

Colonel Slater, chairman of the Court of Directors of the Eoyal Humano Society, thanked the Mayor for making the presentations. Such public ceremonies went a long way towards assisting the work of the society.
