MAYORAL ELECTIONS LADIES AND GKNTLIOM.IW, — I find there are many false ami misleading statements going round about myself ( such as wearing official robes at the crowning ceremony, handing over the appointment of the council's committees, that Mr Sorensen stood down last year in my favour on condition that I would not stand against him this year. These statements are all false. What I did last year was to offer to stand down myself if Councillor Sorensen cared to contest the position. He and others declined. I wiHhed to retire a year ago for business reasons. As a result I have a road roller on hand at a. cost of over £BOO, which would have been sold to the council if I had carried out my original intention of not standing. The order has been lost for ever. I have accepted Mr F. K. Smith's challenge to prove I was not present at a private, meeting, and that the Social-Democrats names appeared on the committees. I now claim from Mr F. K, Smith the £lO 10/- for the Charitable Aid Board ami his apology. 1 have taken a leading part in every movement for the help of humanity. I was chairman of H.M.S. Is r ew Zealand Committee, providing homes for many thousands of children, and after al! expenses were met had £-300, which has been invested for 3.'» years to provide shooting prizes for the men of our cruiser. The great industrial strike. The raising of £4500 for the Consumption Home, and £3400 for the Children's Homes, £llOO for sufferers by the Huntly disaster, £llOO for the Scott Memorial, £IOOO for the Belgian sufferers £B4O for the Belgian children.' The raising of' £120,000 for the electricity loan, the gift of the Riccarton .Bush,. and hundreds of smaller matters have always had my warmest support. I ask you to judge me by my works and not by what my detractors have to say, relying on your hearty support. , Yours sincerelv, H. HOLLAND. CHRISTCHURCH MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
