SOCKS FOR SOLDIERS.

To the Editor of TKR SUN. Sir,—May I, through the medium of your pages, make an appeal to the women of Canterbury to "get busy" and knit socks for our soldier boys? Lady Liverpool, in her-letter; asks for two pairs of socks for each soldier,, to,be ready,to send in June. I would* suggest that if each woman will make an effort she can have ready at least one pair. One's knitting can be kept at hand. During the day there will be found to be many idle moments, when a few stitches can be put in. And thus the work grows, and the result is the completed sock. I do much of my own housework (we number eight), and yet, since tl\e need arose for socks, and the departure of the main body, I have found" time to make 20 pairs. I have, of course, made other things—scarves, warm clothing, etc.—for the different relief funds. I have personal knowledge of dozens* of women, with the necessary time and ability, who are sitting literally with folded hands and letting a. few willing workers shoulder the burden. Women, if you cannot knit, learn! The urgent necessity calls for it. My own son writes that the home-made socks are splendid and that they cannot have too many.—l am, etc., "A SOLDIER'S MOTHER."
