SCHOOL PRIZES.

ST. ALBANS SCHOOL. The annual prize-giving ceremony took place at St. Albans Schoolyesterday afternoon, when Mr E. H. Andrews, chairman of the school committee, presented the prizes after first addressing the assembled children. An address was also given by the headmaster. J EAST CHRISTCHUBCH. ~ The breaking up ceremonies in connection with the East Christehurch School took place this morning, when the prizes won by the pupils during the year were presented by Mr A. F. Drayton (chairman of the committee), who stated that the yekt had been a most successful one, more so than had been the case for a number of years past. A great deal of credit was due to the teaching staff, "who had been untiring in their efforts throughout the whole year. There were about 25 per cent, of th'e pupils who had obtained attendance certificates, and this was a very. creditable performance in such a large school. "In conclusion, he congratulated the pupils on their work, and wished them a merry Christmas and , a happy New Year. Mr A. We tried to cajole them into having their usual Christmas tree, but they would have none of it. day, but they all-cried out, 'No, no; we want to send it to the Belgians, for they are starving, and we have plenty.' You would have been proud to have heard the unanimous roar of the little ones, and seen the fervent, look depicted on their earnest faces.
