WATER SUPPLY BOARD.

The last meeting of the WaimakaririAshley Water Supply Board was attended by Messrs Dixon (chairman), Cooper, Moderate, and Wayland. The surveyor's report, which was adopted, mentioned that during the previous five weeks the daily depth of water on the all of the intake at Brown's Rock head works had been 3ft lljin, and during the same period the dealy average depth of water passing the flume at the block cutting had been Ift llin, giving an. abundant supply of water to the whole district. The river remained in a favourable position despite an alteration, , resulting :from. numerous freshlets. A close \Vatcli is being kept for developments, but the present indication is for a still greater supply of water to the north of the intake. The head race has been cleaned, and is entirely free from silt and weeds. The old decayed bridges over Scan- V lon's race and the main race on Domain Road have been dismantled and the new concrete bridges have been roaded and are in use. The new flumes have been placed in Messrs Skurr's and Murray's properties, and a supply of water has been given to Mr Power across the Ohoka Road. Mr Howat, Cust, interviewed the board re the proposed alteration of race at Cust. After discussion Mr Howat agreed to the alteration. It was also agreed to give him a supply from the main race by mean's of a pipe and stop cock at-a place to be fixed by him. . .

It was resolved that the filling in be sone at a convenient time, but that the acreage rate now being paid must be continued. The Rangiora County Council wrote in reference to the main race ford on North Moeraki Road, and asking for it to be covered in, as motorists were complaining. The surveyor was requested to explain about the large quantity of water on the ford, and mention that the ford will be covered in shortly. A circular was received from the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, Minister in charge, re the National Provident Fund for superannuation of the board's employees.—On the motion of the chairman it was unanimously resolved that the Minister be written to saying that the board will be glad to support the scheme, and will be pleased to receive the terms and conditions of enrolment as soon as the Provident Fund Board has adopted them, and they have been gazetted. The chairman moved, and Mr Wayland seconded, that the board's employees be asked if they would agree to contribute towards the suggested Provident Fund.—Carried. It was unanimously resolved to fence off the new bridge over the main race on Domain Road in the usual manner. It was resolved to pay permanent employees their accrued wages up to Christmas time. The secretary was requested to bring in suggested improvements for a new by-law and alterations in system of rating at the next meeting of the board.
